My decision to home educate.

My daughter Izzie is 7, for the past 8 months she would come home from school covered in bruises. She was not sleeping, she was anxious, she would cry every morning and every night, It was as though someone had taken my daughter and replaced her with a shy, quiet, scared child. My amazing beautiful daughter was being bullied, attacked by other students.

The school tried to help to no avail, unfortunately the systems they put in place to stop the bullying, and help Izzie feel safe were just not good enough.

I tried everything to get her to stay in school however it got to a point that she would beg me not to take her in.

I started researching alternatives, do I move her to another school, however her anxiety was so bad this wouldn't help, it would make things worse.

Do I keep her in school but ask them to move her to another class, well this wouldn't work either as the bullies still share the same playground, and its not fair on Izzie to not go out to play.

I finally started researching home education, at first I didn't think I would be able to teach her, I have no teaching qualifications, how am I going to fit school around having a 1 year old also in the house. The more I researched the more I discovered that home education is not supposed to be like school, you don't have to be a professor to teach your children, you can let them lead the learning.

That is when we took the decision to remove Izzie from school, home educate her.

Let me tell you one thing, since removing her from school she is like a new child.

I have my old Izzie back, she is crazy, loud, hilariously nutty, it runs in the family haha.

I am so happy that we took the plunge and jumped in feet first.

My heart now fills with joy every time I see her do something new, and out of her comfort zone. Her anxiety is fading and her light is coming back.

I cant wait for our new adventures to begin.

Have any of you thought about home education? Feel free to pop me a message or leave a comment in the box below.

I will make a longer post regarding how we are approaching our home education journey, but for now I just wanted to write about the reasons behind our decision.
